WHAT WAS I THINKING? In retrospect, I was probably thinking of a place to go and soak up the sun and walk on the beach, and maybe have a Margarita at sunset. But here I was, with a fear of flying, boarding a plane to Belize. At least I wasn't traveling alone, I had convinced my best friend to come along, using the excuse that I need an interpreter, as she is fluent in Spanish. Little did we know that Belize was an English speaking country.

From the moment we set foot in Belize it was as if we had found that comfortable pair of shoes we all look for. We boldly rented a car and traveled through the country with just a map... and our dream of finding paradise. We went into the interior and viewed the rainforest with gigantic butterflies, rushing rivers, Mayan ruins and miles of lush foliage. We stood on the sand gazing out into the Caribbean, looking at the blue of the sky meeting the blue of the water, and I remembered both Vi and I saying almost simultaneously... “I could live here”.

That's when the dream began.
